DIMENSIONS

Wood Studs: Minimum Dimensions – 2” x 4” with maximum span of 16” o.c.

Fasten boards directly to studs using either the EZ Backer 1 ½” Assembled Cap Nail or the EZ Backer 1 ¼” Tab Washer and 1 5/8” Corrosion Resistant Screw. Fasteners should be spaced a maximum of 8” apart, 25 per board. All fastener heads should be counter sunk flush with surface of the board

Steel Studs: Minimum Thickness – 20 gauge with maximum span of 16” o.c.

Fasten boards directly to studs using the EZ Backer 1 ¼” Tab Washer and 1 5/8” Corrosion Resistant Screw. Fasteners should be spaced a maximum of 8” apart 25 per board. All washers should be counter sunk flush with surface of the board.

INSTALLATION OF EZ BACKER:

As EZ Backer is 100% waterproof against moisture infiltration, the following steps should be followed to maintain the waterproof integrity of this product.

OPTION 1:

1. Beginning at the bottom of the wall, cut the EZ Backer to size, if necessary, to ensure both vertical ends of the board are directly over a stud, allowing room for a second panel to be affixed to a shared stud.

2. Next, affix the EZ Backer to the wall studs by using the appropriate fastener outlined in the FASTENING section above.

3. Fasteners should be spaced a maximum of 8’ apart and countersunk flush with the surface of the board.

4. Before affixing the next panel of EZ Backer over the first panel, apply a medium sized bead of polyurethane sealant, approximately ¼” thick, to the entire top surface of the 1st panel of EZ Backer.

5. Next, apply fasteners as outlined above in FASTENING section.

6. Whenever two boards come together to make a seam or joint such as covering an entire wall or turning a corner, these seams and joints must be treated with a ¼” bead of polyurethane.

7. All boards must be fitted tightly together.

8. All penetrations made by the fasteners must be completely covered with a bead of polyurethane.

9. Any excess sealant should be spread thin with a putty knife.

OPTION 2:

1. Fasten boards in same manner as outlined in OPTION 1 without the use of polyurethane sealant.

2. After installing all boards, embed 2” fiberglass mesh in all joints and apply a liquid-waterproofing membrane over tape. Also be certain to apply a liquid-waterproofing membrane all penetrations.

STEAM SHOWER APPLICATION:

1. Apply a moisture barrier directly to stud framing before installing EZ Backer or apply a liquid applied waterproof membrane, per manufacturer’s instructions, over the EZ Backer after it has been installed.

2. Treat all seams, joints and penetrations as outline above.

FASTENER AND POLYURETHANE USAGE QUANTITIES

Fasteners – 25 fasteners per board spaced every 8”.

Polyurethane Sealant – Polyurethane sealant will cover approximately 3 boards per tube./p>
